The Anticrat

I'm flattered that the administration now thinks small business is the alpha and omega of the economy...I really am. But I think they have the wrong messiah.

It's a thought that came to me in the shower (where I do ALL my thinking for the day) as I considered the dozens of reasons the administration's plan to incentivise (I don't think that's a word but I'm going with it) with $33 billion, small businesses to bring on new employees. Cuz that's what it comes down to, isn't it? In the administration's mind, if we, business owners, would simply start hiring again, people would have the confidence to start spending and the economy will begin to grow. But because we don't want to take this risk, we are instead somehow killing the economy.

Well, I'm sorry to say, Mr. President, that I will let you down. I am a false god. The reason is simple and it can't be any plainer: I cannot hire someone if there is no work to do. I am not the government. I cannot magically create a project. I'm sorry, I wish I could. Sure, I'd appreciate any reduction, credit, simplification of my company's taxes I could get? Who wouldn't? But, if you really want people to start spending again, if you really want them to feel confident that they can do that house remodel and still get the car fixed, then free their money up. Cut their taxes. Incentivise (there's that word again) them. The beginning and the end of the economy is not the business owner, it's the consumer (shock: the individual!). To look to anyone else is simply economic blasphemy.

Update: Ooh! I just had another thought. Let me put it this way libs, right now the only way giving me $5,000 to hire someone new is going to work is if I lay off one of my current employees. How in the hell is this plan supposed to work? It isn't it's just another way to fill a hole with the dirt from a new one.

Update #2: Yikes! A conspiracy thought. Is this just another way to ultimately blame the ills of the economy on the business owner by a business hostile administration? After all, the reason the economy sucks is because I'm laying people off and won't hire anyone new, right? I'm floundering, so good ol' Uncle Sam is coming to my rescue by throwing money at the problem (what every bad parent does). And if it still fails, then I still get the blame for a shitty economy and stealing $33 billion from the American tax payer. Thanks, Mr Prez, but I think I'll pass on your magic elixir.
